Last time I was in Germany, I actually saw a DP slantnose on the road.  They have a presence, not subtle.

When I was in High School, I worked at a shop that worked on Porsches exclusively. We had one owner that had 2 930 DPs. A white one and a brown one (the brown was an awesome color with black, gray and white stripes). The owner wanted a track engine built for the white one. T he shop created a 3.5L dual plug, turbo motor, that generated over 450hp at the wheels (in 1987). The sound that car made when accelerating was other-worldly. Starting as a low(loud) growl , and stretching to an extremely loud scream. 30-110mph was unbelievable. A push in your chest, and things blurring in your peripheral.

During the build for this car, the owner was able to buy a slightly better track car - a 962. It is possible that this was the first 962 chassis ever built, but I don’t know if that was ever confirmed.

I don’t have pics of the DPs, but I do have one of the 962. I will try to post it if I can find it. I think it is here in my office.

In the late 80's, the white DP show ed up in the Dupont Registry listed for sale. It never was for sale at that time. T he owner of the car, and the owner of the Dupont Registry were friends - I don’t know the whole story, but it sounded a little shady.

This is another car that we had at the shop (close to DC): https://www.classicdriver.com/en/car/porsche/904/1965/185839

The dates in the article about the Maryland owner is a little off (I worked at the shop from 1986- 88). When this car was there it was orange. It was in decent shape, but as you can see from the auction photos, it was restored to museum quality.
